One of the oldest picture postcards of the Hvozd hill from 1885 shows the chalet on the Czech side of the peak of the Hvozd-hill with the original wooden look-out tower Carolaturm.

On this picture postcard from 1924 the two chalets on the southern summit of the Hvozd-hill are shown. Whereas the German chalet in the foreground later underwent a reconstruction, the neighbouring chalet on the Czech side after World War Two disappeared without leaving any trace. The poem and the dwarf refer to the folk tale mentioning a miraculous herb growing on the Hvozd. The lookout tower built in 1892 already stands on Saxonian grounds.

In 1891 the Scientific association Globus of Zittau founded a new stone-built lookout tower. The tower was built on the northern peak of the hill and was festively opened on September 14, 1892.
